Managing Global Trade Operations Free Essays
Introduction This purpose of this document is to discuss the trade between McDanielââ¬â¢s Commodities UK Ltd and Yamaha Koshimoto (YK) Impex Japan. The document specifies the sellerââ¬â¢s conditions for the completion of the export of dried cassava chips to YK Impex Company. The transportation method, payment terms, required documentation and other important inputs, processes and terms needed to accomplish the trade between both parties would be discussed. We will write a custom essay sample on Managing Global Trade Operations or any similar topic only for you Order Now Each of the clauses in the following sections contains discussions on the conditions and requirements for the trade between the two parties. Clause No. 1: Commodity and Country of Origin. The commodity concerned is processed dried cassava chip pellets used for the production of industrial starch, and the country of origin is the UK. According to Barbrow and Judson (1976) and the international system of units, the best way to measure commodities in international trade is through Metric Tonnes (MT). Metric tonne is equivalent of 1000kg. As a result therefore, all weight measurement concerning the trade shall be measured in metric tonnes. Clause No. 2: Product Specification The specifications of the Cassava chips referred to by the seller meets buyerââ¬â¢s requirements: the following are the criteria which specify the sellerââ¬â¢s offer. As noted by WTO (2008) one of the challenges of global trade is meeting product specifications given the technicalities, barriers, standard problems and issues of safety, therefore for trade to be successful, sellerââ¬â¢s must ensure that they meet adequate standards even where it is not stated in trade agreements. The physical test: (A)- The product is free from smell and other radioactive materials. (B)- The chips are dried, cut into sizes and free from foreign matters. (C)- It is free from any insects or Animals. (D)- It is free from any solvents or chemicals used during extraction and processing. The Product Specification StarchMinimum 75% Moisture:Maximum 11% FibreMaximum Content 3% SandMaximum 2% SkinPeeled and Pelted Crop year2010-2011 SizesIrregular Shipment and Packaging Given that the product would be required in hundreds of metric tonnes and in light of their fragile nature, all shipments are to be arranged in bulk bagging of 100 Kg each. It would be shipped in 40 ft containers provided by the shipping company. To ensure that the shipment and packaging meets the international standards, the seller would ensure that it is accordance with (INCOTERMS 2000). Incoterms according to Morrissey et al (2000) are a series of pre-defined commercial terms published by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) widely used in international commercial transactions. Clause No.3: Transportation Maersk, which is known as the foremost global shipping company will be used as the shipping commodity to handle the cargo and the shipment will be in ther the following order. The commodity will be shipped via sea from the Felixstowe port of UK to the Port of Hakata in Japan. Further transportation upon clearance at the port shall be arranged from the port by the buyer. SELLER and BUYER shall mutually appoint internationally recognized first class independent surveyor company SGS/CIQ at both the loading port and unloading port to assess and certify the quality and quantity of the cargo according to the provisions herein started. Costs of the inspection will be shared equally by the seller at loading port and by buyer at unloading port, as per surveyors invoice. Clause No. 3: Payment Terms. The payment shall be by irrevocable, transferable, confirmed, documentary letter of credit payable 100% not later than 60 days against presentation of shipping documents. To ensure safety in the payment arrangement it is commonplace as noted by Pierreand Stewart (2010) to comply with incoterms arrangement with regards to payment and as such the following must be ensured. The Buyer shall open a non operative confirmable, irrevocable, transferable; auto revolving Letter of Credit (L/C) within 7 working days after final signing of agreed sales and purchase agreement by both parties. The LC shall be subject to UCP 2007 revision, ICC publication NO. 600 cover 100% of the total contract value in favour of the seller Buyerââ¬â¢s letter of credit shall comply with other terms of uniform customs and practice (UCP 600) issued by (ICC). The buyerââ¬â¢s letter of credit payment value shall be only for the net cassava quantity actually delivered to the discharge port and upon the shipping documents submitted by the seller to the buyerââ¬â¢s bank. The buyerââ¬â¢s bank shall issue the operative Letter of credit only in favour of the sellerââ¬â¢s company which signed the final contract with the buyerââ¬â¢s. All official communications between the sellerââ¬â¢s bank and the buyerââ¬â¢s bank shall be by: Society for Worldwide Inter-bank Financial Telecommunications (known as S.W.I.F.T.). Before the shipment of any part of the contract seller shall confirm that all forms of payment are satisfactory and conforms to legal standards. In case the BUYERââ¬â¢s letter of credit is delayed and seller is not able to receive payment as a result of the buyerââ¬â¢s bank fault or the buyer or any of its agents. The BUYER will pay a penalty to the SELLER at rate of 0.1% for each day of delay but not more than 2% of unpaid amount. Clause No. 4: Required Shipping Documents All shipping documents shall be original and written in English language only. The INCOTERMS does not permit that carbon copies of documents should be acceptable by the Seller as it might create dispute, therefore all documents must be original. The sellers agrees to provide insurance certificate covering all shipment risks issued by the buyerââ¬â¢s favour through a known global insurance Company in the value of (110%) one hundred ten percent. Analysis certificate of the shipment issued by seller: this would include all the technical specifications of the commodities produced by the party or an official party on the sellerââ¬â¢s behalf. Signed commercial invoices issued by the seller in the Buyerââ¬â¢s name with reference to commodity description, contract type buyerââ¬â¢s name (Letter of credit number Issuance date as well as unit, price quantity, value and date. 2/2 of Bills of Lading (B/L) originals and copies) signed and stamped by the vesselââ¬â¢s captain and marked ââ¬Å"clean on boardâ⬠, indicating the vesselââ¬â¢s name and address of the vesselââ¬â¢s owner, vesselââ¬â¢s master name, loading port and date, contract number, buyerââ¬â¢s (letter of credit) Number and issuance date. Certificate of Commodity Inspection and Quarantine issued by Defra UK Two original and copies of certificate of origin issued and authenticated by the (Department for food, forestry and Agriculture: UK) or its representative. Two original and 2 copies each of the inspection certificates issued at the loading port Confirming product specifications, quality, packing and that the shipment in line with the contracted specs in clause 2. Insurance certificate covering all shipment risks issued in favour of EXW by prime insurance Company in the value of (110%) one hundred ten percent of the (letter of credit value issued in US dollars. Two original and two copies each of certificate of origin issued and authenticated by the UK Defra at the port of origin Two originals and two copies each of official shipping advice issued by the sellerââ¬â¢s shipping company showing in-depth details about the shipment such as: vesselââ¬â¢s sailing date, vesselââ¬â¢s name / registration date number / age/ nationality/ flag, name of Loading and Delivery port, name of shipped goods, (SGS) tests report at the loading port, name and address of the buyerââ¬â¢s company, name of the vesselââ¬â¢s captain, invoice date and value, oil country of origin, bill of lading date and number, contract number, net quantity loaded, voyage itinerary and vesselââ¬â¢s estimated time of arrival (ETA) to the delivery port. Beneficiaryââ¬â¢s certificate confirming that all original shipping documents were sent to the buyerââ¬â¢s bank by international courier services (as Fedex or any express courier). Any other payment documents stated in the buyerââ¬â¢s letter of credit letter of credit The original shipping documents shall be sent at sellerââ¬â¢s account to the buyer and to the buyerââ¬â¢s bank via approved courier services (as DHL or equivalent) as soon as possible to match the vesselââ¬â¢s Final arrival date to the delivery port. The original shipping documents for all shipments shall be presented to the buyerââ¬â¢s bank within the Validity period of the buyerââ¬â¢s operative (letter of credit). The Seller shall notify the Buyer of the expected date of arrival at discharge port within 120 hours after the completion of the loading. The Seller shall require the tankers Master to advise the Buyer and ship Owners Agent at the port of discharge, the ships estimate time of arrival (ETA), its name, tonnage, flag, draughts, loaded quantity in every holed, etc. at least 144 hours before her arrival of the destination port. Clause No. 5: Raising Finance With respect to finance for accomplishing the trade, both parties will be under financial obligations to ensure that the trade is accomplished. This would require that each party must have available finance obtainable. On the Sellerââ¬â¢s side, the payment required would be that to pay shippers, insurance, inspectors, local transportation, shipping documents, administration and shipment given that the arranged INCOTERMS is C.I.F. Similarly, the buyer will be under obligation to pay for transportation and the C.I.F cost. For the seller in particular the most feasible and preferable option would be through short term trade finance. According to Humphrey (2009) short term trade finance are always available to exporters when they have sufficient evidence to demonstrate that they can fulfil a particular order and has the capacity. Humphrey points out that although banks usually assess risks of the trade and the fitness of the exporter to fulfil the terms before granting short term fina nce. However, since such terms can be fulfilled by the Seller given the product availability, it is likely that such finance would be accessible from the bank. Usually, short trade finance must be paid within 6 months therefore, since the payment arrange with the buyer would be within 60 days L/C maturity, no problem with regard to raising such finance is anticipated. Failing this however, the UK trade and investment short term finance program would be tapped into for financing the trade while other Angel investors would be explored. For the buyer, the most feasible payment option is to finance the trade by lodging cash in the bank in order to be entitled to a sound and reliable letter of credit. Or otherwise, the buyer can set up a payment plan with its banks by giving proof of through its previous financial records that payment would be returned to the bank upon receiving and selling the product. Clause No. 6: Business Procedure. The buyer signs, seals and sends the final contract to the seller as e-mail attachment. The seller signs, seals the final contract and sends it back to the buyer within (3) three days by fax or email attachment. The paper copy signed and sealed by both parties and sent by DHL or equivalent expedited courier shall be deemed the original contract. Within (3-7) Three to seven banking days from the signing of the final contract, the buyerââ¬â¢s bank shall send SWIFT a pre advice to the sellerââ¬â¢s bank confirming the presence of a non-operative letter of credit covering the value of the quantity. The buyer and the seller are fully committed to execute the signed contract upon established terms. Clause No. 7: Delivery Terms. The date of the bill of lading (B/L) shall be considered the date of shipment and shall be within fifty to sixty days. Discharge rate and demurrage charges shall be the buyerââ¬â¢s responsibility. The delivery port is Port of Hakata, Japan. The sellerââ¬â¢s shipping agent shall notify the buyer and the buyerââ¬â¢s shipping agent at the delivery Port by e-mail attachment the information about the vesselââ¬â¢s position (7) seven days, (72) seventy two hours and (24) twenty four hours of the vesselââ¬â¢s final berthing. Smart Manufacturing Handling Preventive
Question: Discuss about the Smart Manufacturing for Handling Preventive. Answer: Introduction: In terms of Economics, a model is discussed with the help of the economics theory and also with the set of variables and logical associations. The modern economic theory is referred as the intricate machine[1]. The major job deals with the inadequate resources as well as the distribute of the output within the different agents. The agents are governments, individuals and also within the firms. The measurable signals refers that there is the orders that can diverts the complexity during the allocation of goods and the services. In addition, the tendency of the annual productivity of the developed nations is upward sloping. The economic model has a simple description of reality and also planned to determine the hypothesis for the economic performance. Nonetheless, all of the economic models are considered as subjective and it estimates the reality. It would highlight the observed occurrence. The government of an economy needs to ignore the predictions, as the predictions are tempered b y the arbitrariness fundamental information, which can describe the validity of the theories. No economic models provide a relevant explanation of the reality. The major reason of this inadequate attention can create a link among the entire demand, wealth and excessive risks. It can be mentioned that there will be considerable research into the exposure. This research highlights to the behavioral equations in order to present the economic models. The economic models are needed to adapt the existing equations in order to make a connection with the help of new equations and the financial sector. Economists focus to the usage of the tools to test the models that highlights the statistics and the case studies. The main drawbacks highlight the effective market hypothesis and the logical expectations hypothesis. It can be stated that the market operators not only behave rationally[2]. In this context, economists Keynes explained the fact and therefore, economics is a segment of moral science. In this purpose, it can be stated that the price elasticity of demand is a measurement, which refers that the connection between the quantity demand of the goods and the change of the price of the goods[3]. Therefore, price elasticity of demand= (Percentage change in demand/ percentage change in price). Price elasticity of normal goods: It is known that in case of the normal goods, the demand for the goods will be increased with the rise in the income level. However, if the level of price of the products would increase, then the demand for the goods would be decreased. From the above figure, it can be observed that the demand for the goods would rise with the increase in the income level. However, if the level of price of the normal goods would rise, the quantity purchased by the customers would be decreased. This would decrease the price elasticity of demand for the normal products would decrease. As per the concept of consumer theory of economics, the giffen goods are the goods, which are consumed by the customers more if the price of the products would rise and the level of income would decrease[4]. In this context, salt and sugar are the examples of giffen goods. The demand for the giffen goods is perfectly elastic. Therefore, it can be inferred that if the price of the products would be fluctuated, then the percentage change for the quantity demand would be equivalent. The above figure highlighted that it can be stated that the demand curve for the giffen goods is perfectly inelastic. If the level of income would decrease or the level of price would rise, then the percentage of quantity demand would be raised. On the other hand, it can be observed from the above figure is that with the rise in the price level from P1 to P2, the demand for the giffen goods would not be changed. Hence, it can be inferred that the price elasticity would be raised. In addition, it can be pointed that the income effect would dominate the substitution effect of the goods[5]. Price elasticity of luxury goods: In terms of economics, luxury goods are the goods, for which the demand for the products would be increased greater than the rise of the level of income. On the other hand, it can be mentioned that the change of the quantity demand for the luxury goods would be decreased when the price level of the products would be increased. Nonetheless, if the income level of the customers would increase, then the demand for the luxury goods would also increase. It can be stated that the price elasticity of the luxury goods is perfectly elastic. Some of the examples of luxury goods are cars, air conditions, jewellery etc[6]. The above diagram highlights that if the price level of the luxury goods would rise from the P1 level to P2, then it can be observed that the percentage of quantity demand would increase from D1 to D2 when the level of income increase. Therefore, the change of the price level is lower than the change of the demand for the luxury goods, which can be clearly observed in the in the above diagram. As a result, it can be mentioned that due to the change of the price level, the quantity demand would also increase when the income level would increase. According to Varian (2016), the price elasticity of demand would be inelastic for the upper income group people. Bibliography Coglianese, J., Davis, L. W., Kilian, L., Stock, J. H.. The Climatic Condition of San Francisco and Key West
Climate refers to the weather condition of a certain given area over a long period of time, usually after a period of 30 years. The climatic conditions are arrived at as a result of several factors such as nearness to large water bodies, latitudinal factors, the altitude patterns, human activities, the relief, and distance from the equator, direction of wind and the flow of ocean currents to a given area. This paper explores the climatic condition of the city of san fransisco, CA and Key West, Florida.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on The Climatic Condition of San Francisco and Key West specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More San Francisco is a county in California State. Itââ¬â¢s among the most populous regions in California with varied socio-cultural prospects and a robust economic platform. The city sits on the north of the peninsular where it borders Pacific Ocean and San Francisco bay to the west and northern end respectively. Francisco city is a renowned worldââ¬â¢s tourist destined site, thanks to its exclusive prevailing weather patterns courtesy of the climatic condition. The climatic pattern is the Mediterranean climate; group Cs, which is a sub type of the temperate climate according to the koppen classification. Many factors contribute to the climatic condition. Due to proximity to sea, ocean currents flow to and fro thereby bringing about the cooling effect. Itââ¬â¢s because of these cool currents that produce humid conditions of warmth and small variations of yearly temperatures. The city undergoes dry intervals between the May all the way to October then giving way to the start of the rains from November to the April. During the rainy period, rain falls slightly more than one week which makes about 5 percent of the annual total rainfall that occurs. The rain pattern is prompted by the air masses from the warm north-west front and the cold front from the Alaskan gulf. Thus, t he city endures a maximum average temperatures of 60à º F and 70à ºF and minimum of 50à ºF and 55à ºF during summer with cool sea breeze and foggy conditions .On the other hand, winter is characterized by much fog and even transport operations may be disrupted during such periods. The city also experiences the spring and fall seasons. At such times, the skies are usually clear during the shift from summer season to the more cold winter period defined by heavy rainy clouds. It is also during this period when dry offshore currents oust the sea currents from the pacific resulting in the alteration of temperature thereby making it the hottest period in San Francisco city. Due to latitudinal differences, the precipitation patterns of San Francisco vary from one area to the other. This is depicted by the relief of the area which anchors on the terrain, which is dotted with a number of hills. As a result, air from the pacific gets lifted upward over the high topographical features.Adve rtising Looking for essay on geography? Let's see if we can help you! Precipitation patterns on an average yearly basis stands at about 500mm and certainly takes place from November through to April when rainfall is experienced and this is equivalent to 20 inches (Gabler 49). Vegetation refers to the plant concentration in an area. The topographic convention of San Francisco city is marked with several hills. The terrain and proximity to the sea front produce several features associated with a variety of native vegetation. These range from wild flowers to woodlands. Take for instance; areas close to the sea front is almost bare as it is mainly dotted by sand dunes. The numerous hilly areas typically are cooler thus the vegetation becomes denser .San Francisco is perc eived to be a major urban centre in California, unfortunately, the native vegetation is quietly and quickly giving way to the rapid urban expansion as a result of the human activities involved. San Francisco cityââ¬â¢s climate can be described as, Csb according to the koppen climate classification system. Finally, Key West is a city in Monroe County; Florida. It covers Key West and stock isles. This city is also a major tourist destination due to its characteristics cruise ships. Its geographical map can be defined by 24à º 33à ´North and 81 à º 03à ´West with a maximum height above sea level standing at 6m or 18 feet. Itââ¬â¢s also in this region that tropical cyclones are more prone because most of the topographical features sit at no more than 20 feet. This system affects wind movement and alters rainfall patterns which causes unpredictable warming of water surface thereby forcing moisture into the atmosphere through the immense energy produced hence causing tornadoes a nd even forest fires. The Florida Keys manifest to a process of glaciations hence sits on a coral base (Gabler 57). These phenomena point to the existence of limestone beds along the peninsula and the coral reef to the west that has since been covered with sand. According to koppen classification system, Key West city has a relatively mild nature, tropical climate. This is so because Key West lies close to the equator which is also a major factor that can determine the climate of an area as it receives more sunshine. This type of climate can be credited to several factors too. Take for example, the Gulf Stream and the Gulf of Mexico that borders the city to the north and to the west contributes to the average humid conditions linked to this region. Due to the closeness of this area to the sea, the currents bring about the cooling effect as they flow from the sea front onto the mainland.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on The Climatic Condition of San Francisco an d Key West specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More This attest to the fact that, cold currents meet with the warm fonts from the northern part during winter. Because of this situation, the temperatures in this region always maintain a figure not less than 10 à ºC or 50 à ºF.The month of July is usually accompanied by 26.4 à ºC and 31.9à ºC at an average of low and high temperatures in that order. Here, there are two major highlights of climate. The two climatic seasons run from June to October marked by hot and wet, plus humid conditions. The other season commence from the month of November to May. This period features both dry and cool weather circumstances that further explain the reason for the state of the summer conditions. As summer approaches, the heat is moderated with easterly winds and the current from the sea hence forming humid weather patterns (Gabler 54). The hot season between November and April experiences little rain wit h abundant sunshine, while the wet season of May and October receives slightly higher rainfall annually compared to the former with occasional thunderstorms due to the easterly winds. This regulates the precipitation patterns hence the outcome of this process produces low precipitation on average. Thus, making Key West as the city with the most pronounced dry conditions in the state of Florida. The vegetation of Key West is as varied as the topographical features are concerned. Generally, the environmental features resemble that of the Caribbean even though the Key West islands were formed as a result of sea animals and water plants. The vegetation landscape takes after natural habitats found in areas of high altitude mainly occasioned by upland forests such as maple, pine, oak and tropical species like mahogany and many others. The sea shore exhibit varied vegetation too, like coconut palm, hibiscus trees, and the bougainvillea and papaya species. Exotic species can also thrive her e because of the favorable climate that supports their growth. Consequently, the climate of Key West area is therefore Aw, according to koppen climate classification system. Works Cited Gabler, Robert. The Fundamentals of Physical Geography. California. No Exit essays
No Exit essays Sartre's most popular play is undoubtedly the one-act drama No Exit, which is a discussion of such familiar negative existentialist themes as bad faith, self-destruction, and the impossibility of interpersonal relationships. It is in this play that Sartre's famous line, "Hell is other people," occurs. Although many nineteenth century philosophers developed the concepts of existentialism, it was Sartre who popularized it. His one act play, Huis Clos (Closed Doors) or No Exit, first produced in Paris in May, 1944, is the clearest example and metaphor for this philosophy. There are only four characters: the Valet, Garcin, Estelle, and Inez and the entire play takes place in a drawing room, Second Empire style, with a massive bronze ornament on the mantelpiece. Sartre begins his philosophy with the assertion that existence precedes essence. It contains three basic ideas: 1. L'Ã ªtre-en-soi (Being-in-itself), 2. L'Ã ªtre pour-soi (Being-for-itself), 3. L'Ã ªtre-pour-autrui (Being-for-others). Existence is the process wherein a thing becomes what it will be. It is through the process of existence that a person defines himself. Humans are "condemned to be free" that is, without the existence of an absolute god or a pre-existing universal definition, they are free to define themselves through their actions and choices. Such freedom, which is at the heart of human existence carries with it the burden of personal responsibility, because of this Sartre refers to it as a condemnation. Freedom is not freedom from, but is, freedom for. Existence is a process of becoming that projects into the future. One's existence is always a projection of possibilities to choose from. Thus, freedom is always a projection of future possibilities for po ssible action. Nothingness lies at the heart of being and creates a yearning for fulfillment, nothingness is the origin of freedom and the origin of human existence ...

Ever Since and Every Sense of the Word
Ever Since and Every Sense of the Word Ever Since and Every Sense of the Word Ever Since and Every Sense of the Word By Maeve Maddox Many misspellings are the result of mispronunciation. The first time I saw the expression ââ¬Å"ever sinceâ⬠written as ââ¬Å"ever sense,â⬠I assumed that it had been written by the speaker of a regional dialect. For example, where I live, itââ¬â¢s often impossible to tell if someone is asking to borrow a pen or a pin. Since is an adverb. The expression ââ¬Å"ever sinceâ⬠means, ââ¬Å"from that time until now.â⬠For example, ââ¬Å"He was elected in 1983 and has served in the Senate ever since.â⬠Sense is used as both noun and verb: The sense of sight is perhaps the most treasured of the five senses. And not just on blogs or in forums, but on professional sites as well. Here are some of my gleanings: Ever sense the update, my iPhone 4S will randomly shut off at least once a day. Conscientious Objection by Health Care Providers Essay
Conscientious Objection by Health Care Providers - Essay Example This essay stresses that a patientââ¬â¢s self-determination and exasperated autonomy, within these practices, has given rise to a new principle of professional integrity to protect the doctorââ¬â¢s conscientious objections if the request of the patient or his or her family appears to defy some fundamental human rights. Therefore, this paper strives to identify and describe the moral and legal criteria under which health care providers may decline or accept to provide healthcare treatments over the objection of patients and/ families. This paper makes a conclusion that health care personnel had the legal rights to provide healthcare treatments over the objection of the childrenââ¬â¢s families. Those paediatricians who were from the same communities also had to go against their religious beliefs, and administer vaccine to the affected children because they feared being held liable should unvaccinated children contract this disease, which could have been prevented through vaccination. ââ¬Å"Medical neglectâ⬠is a legal concept that refers to the failure of a guardian or parent to obtain the required medical care for a child in spite of having the ability to do so. Health care personnel with moral objection to certain health care services have the right to inform their supervisors or colleagues to these objections. This is a necessary to minimize the disruption of health care delivery and burdens on other health care providers.

Finance assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words
Finance - Assignment Example The expected return figures obtained for these four companies are justified as they reflect in part the general trend observed in the various sectors. Watson and Head (2007) suggests that Biotech companies are expected to incur high cost of initial investment in research but with time they record high returns owing to the sale of their innovative products. The findings concur with those of Brown et al, (2012) who further proposes that the high returns for pharmaceutical companies increase exponentially as the new productââ¬â¢s market reach increases. On the other hand, Construction companies can be termed as safe investments as they have less risk, since most of the capital for such companies is held up in assets (Boritz, 2006) and (Megginson, 1996). This sector has high returns on investment owing to the booming real estate industry in Australia. The banking sector is dependent on the countryââ¬â¢s economy and income levels of the people as discussed by Mishkin and Eakins (200 6). They state that since Australia is a developed country, over 90% of the people above 18 years of age operate bank accounts. With more people saving money with the banks, there is enough money to offer loans to businesses and individual thus making it a profitable sector. In contrast to this, the travel and leisure industry is highly affected with seasonal tourism experienced in Australia as reported in ââ¬Å"An Introduction to Technical Analysisâ⬠(1999). Although most people may have disposable income to use in leisure, they prefer international destinations during seasons such as winter when the temperatures are very low. In addition, the competition in the sector, makes it a less profitable sector especially for small and medium companies. There are three major methodological setbacks associated with the Gordonââ¬â¢s growth model. Firstly, it is assumed that the growth rate is constant which might not necessarily be the case. Secondly, for stocks of growing

The contemporary perspectives in psychology Essay Example for Free
The contemporary perspectives in psychology Essay Which of the contemporary perspectives in psychology makes the most sense to you? Discussion It is evident that psychology is being increasingly used in daily events. Employment for example, in Europe more companies are subjecting potential personnel to psychological profile checks and psychological tests during interviews. Even our social lives are becoming affected. People who are seeking the right partner are using psychological techniques to establish the emotional state of their potential partners. As psychology becomes more and more accessible and understandable to more people, I feel that it will begin to influence our lifestyles more. The evolutionary perspective focuses on why a particular behavior or physical structure developed and how the behavior or structure aids in adaptation to the environment (Lahey, 20). Charles Darwin was the innovator who popularized the evolutionary theory. This summarizes how a being can adapt to an environment and keep certain habits, in turn passing these traits along to future generations. Sociocultural perspective focuses on the different cultures, ethnic identity and other sociocoultural factors to fully understand a person (Lahey, 17) which I think is makes the most sense. At a point in time the psychology field was dominated by Caucasian males. Females and people from different races were not allowed to be in the field or even to obtain a doctoral degree. Thought the years, the percentage of men and women in the field have changed dramatically. Once dominated by men, the field has shifted more toward women dominating the field. The contemporary perspective in psychology that makes the most sense to me is the neuroscience perspective. I think the neuroscience perspective is very important especially within the medical field. I understand why this course is a pre-req for entry into pharmacy school. The neuroscience perspective focuses on the nervous system in explaining behavior and mental processes. Psychologists are interested in the structures of the brain that play roles in emotion, reasoning, speaking, and other psychological processes (Lahey, 20). For example, after drinking alcohol you slur you speech and are unable to walk a straight line. Alcoh ol affects the part of the brain that controls muscle coordination. Also, the illegal drug MDMA/ecstasy effects serotonin levels in the brain. This plays a role in emotion. While on the drug you have a wide range of good emotions. After the drug is out of the brain you dont feel as good. The brains of people with schizophernia, bipolar disorder, MS and Parkinsons disease and Alzheimers are different than people without these conditions. MRIs, EEGS and PETS (scans of the brain) have shown this difference. New drugs have been created to treat these conditions based on neurotransmitters and chemicals in the brain. With more and more research being today on these diseases, better and effective treatments are being developed based on the way are body/brains are built and function. Most psychologists agree Human beings are biological creatures (Lahey, 26) The new drug Namenda, for Alzheimers works by attaching to a certain receptors and allowing just enough chemical that effects learning and memory. Too much of this chemical and the nerve cells die, too little and information cannot be stored. I think all of the perspectives have some value. They are different and some similar in explaining behavior and mental processes. Generally, contemporary psychologists do not align themselves with a single theoretical position. Rather, they integrate the best contributions of each perspective into their own eclectic view. (Lahey, 25) I think when evaluating behavior and mental processes, each perspective should be considered and the best parts used. I agree with Aga when she says in her post The evolutionary perspective focuses on why a particular behavior or physical structure developed and how the behavior or structure aids in adaptation to the environment (Lahey, 20). Charles Darwin was the innovator who popularized the evolutionary theory. This summarizes how a being can adapt to an environment and keep certain habits, in turn passing these traits along to future generations. Many traits are passed along and also bipolar disorder can be passed on to future generations. The behavior of a son/daughter having bipolar disorder can be similar to the mother/father that has bipolar disorder. Also, bipolar disorder is somehow connected with out physical makeup, DNA. That is how it is passed on. Although Darwin wrote long before the mechanisms of genetic inheritance were understood, he hypothesized that variations occur occasionally in the process of reproduction (Lahey 20) Who knows maybe bipolar disorder was originally a mutation.

nucor case :: essays research papers
Nucor Corporation is constantly faced with obstacles and competition to overcome. This steel-making company whose name was formally adopted in 1972, has since been on a journey to join the ranks of the worlds leading steel companies. Although this is a highly profitable industry with a U.S. market of $94.9 billion, it is highly competitive and presents many bariers to entry. Three elements of competition in this particular industry include, 1.) Technology 2) Changes in cost and efficiencies and 3) globalization à à à à à Advances in technology can dramatically alter an industryââ¬â¢s landscape, making it possible to produce products at lower costs and opening up whole new industry frontiers. The management at Nucor believed they could use new technology to their advantage and make bolts as cheaply as foreign producers. The traditional integrated steel mills were outdated and inefficient compared to new electric minimills. Nucor embraced this new technology to produce steel. They became known for constructing state-of-the-art facilities at the lowest possible costs and for investing aggressively in plant modernization and efficiency improvements. New technology enabled minimills to triple their output in the 1990's. The new technology of twin shell electric arc furnaces helped minimills increase production, lower costs, and take additional market shares. Nucorââ¬â¢s use of advanced, efficient technologies enabled it to stay afloat when other companies could not. This use of t echnology also enables Nucor to lower many of the costs of maintaining environmental standards. With technological improvements to the plants and the production process, steel companies can better compete with each other. Because there is no real differentiation between products in the steel industry, companies will have to rely on technological innovation to profit in this industry. à à à à à As stated above, there is no real differentiation in products in this industry. Therefore steel companies have to be able to produce high quality products at low cost to compete. By improving production efficiencies and cost management, they will be a more profitable company. Nucor constantly spent money researching new ways to improve the production processes and keep up with the emerging markets. Nucor was known for constructing state-of-the-art facilities at the lowest cost and investing in plant modernizing and efficiency. At the Darlington plant the manger there developed a system where less time and less capital investment were required. This helped keep the fuel usage down and this was the only mill in the United States that was doing this.

What negative influences does Porter see? Describe several positive influences the Internet has on business. Do these outweigh the negative influences? Your Some of the negative aspects viewed about the internet was that it destroyed Answer: some industries and have threatened more. However, the internetââ¬â¢s good may outweigh the bad. New markets and a multitude of new businesses are being formed because of the internet. E-commerce transformed the business world of books, music and air travel. Telephone services, movies, television, jewelry, real estate, hotels, bill payments and software have all seen more efficient ways to strategically do business because of the internet. I think the positive aspects on competitive advantages outweigh the negative influences, especially for start up and new entry companies. The internet allows them to be more efficient and self sufficient as a business Instructor Porter sees the Internet as creating ever more intense rivalry, through allowing new Explanation: competitors to enter the market, and forcing competition on price alone, raising the bargaining power of customers, and dampening profits. Positive influences of the Internet would be lowering telecommunications costs, creating new opportunities for building brands and loyal customer bases, lowering costs of globalization. You could also view Porterââ¬â¢s negative take on lowering the barrier to entry as a positive for new companies. The Internetââ¬â¢s influence being negative or positive depends in part on the point of view from which the influence is being seen. For example, a telephone utility is impacted negatively by the emergence of Internet telephony, while other industries may be impacted positively either through the use of this technology or through engaging in Internet telephony as a business.

Dehumanization in Night Essay
Night is a heart pulling memoir of its young Jewish author, Ellie Weasel, and his experiences in the Holocaust. The book begins with him living in the town of Sighet. He had a very sheltered life, with no accounts of negativity in the world. He and his family were also raised heavily on Jewish beliefs. One day a man by the name of Moshe the beadle comes to warn the people of the dangers of the Nazis. Unfortunately the people did not heed this and Sighet was invaded by Nazis. Weasel and his family are taken and separated. He only had his father now and they braved much torture and mal treatment by the kapos in the camps. At the end of it all only weasel himself made it out alive, though a brutal scar was marked upon his soul. Heââ¬â¢d lost his family and his faith at those camps. But through all his sorrow and loss he wanted to share his accounts in this dark volume of his life, so that people understand what the Jews went through all those years ago. This led him to write Night, where in which Weasel points out the inhumanity towards other humans during the holocaust as one of the themes of his chilling story. One of the major factors that contribute to this theme is actually one of the first cruel things he encountered was the Nazis. At first on the other had he didnââ¬â¢t see them for the monstrous people that they were. In the book Eliezer, Weasels character, even recalls, ââ¬Å"Our first impressions of the Germans were most reassuringâ⬠¦. Their attitude toward their hosts was distant, but polite.â⬠But this is just one of the many aspects of the holocaust that was tremendously misunderstood. But even more so unthinkable was the cold-blooded butchery of millions of innocent people. As the memoir progresses you will see how Weasel puts a spotlight of the actions of the Nazis by first seeing them as humans beings but then later on reveals the evil deeds that they commit upon innocent Jews. Night also exhibits how inhumanity can spread to others who have been shown inhumanity. This is shown when the Jews start to turn on each other, instead of braving their harsh treatment together. It is even said by a Kapo: ââ¬Å"Here, every man has to fight for himself and not think of anyone else. . . . Here, there are no fathers, no brothers, no friends. Everyone lives and dies for himself alone.â⬠Because the Kapo are also just prisoners that are in control of the other prisoners, this is a very significant message. They were happy to help the Nazis in their plans for genocide. This led them to act really ruthlessly towards those under their command. In the fifth section of the book Eliezer mentions them as being, ââ¬Å"functionaries of death.â⬠The perspective of the Kapos show how those effected by the Holocaust can use inhumanity to infect other people like it as a virus.

Scaffolding The film ââ¬Å"Scaffolding: Self-Regulated Learning in the Primary Gradesâ⬠, we learn of Lev Vygotsky and his beliefs about education. Vygotsky felt that techniques such as scaffolding and self-regulated learning were the most beneficial to the education of children. He also recognized that both parties, students and teachers, are responsible for learning. Jerome Bruner introduced scaffolding in 1970. It is a teaching strategy with methods to move a child from an assisted level of learning to and independent level of learning. Teachers can provide scaffolding in three ways through the use of mediators, language, and shared activity. Mediators are tools to facilitate a complex behavior or cue a mental process. They must be meaningful, positive, and standout. A learning plan can be one example of a mediator. Vygotsky felt that the most powerful human invention was language. Language can come in various forms. We communicate through public, private, inner, verbal, thought, and written speech. Without it, the learning process would be much more complex. Shared activity is another way in which teachers can provide a scaffolding system for their students. This can be done on a teacher-student level, or a peer-peer level. Shared activity helps students to feel more confident in what they are doing. The film also discussed self-regulated learning. Self-regulated learning is independent learning. Capitalism versus Socialism Essay Example for Free
Capitalism versus Socialism Essay Budget deficit is just one of the many factors that negatively affect the provision of most of the government projects in the society. Without the sufficient amount of government funds, building of infrastructures and other public goods would be delayed or underprovided. As we can remember, there are some goods and services that can only be provided efficiently if the government is the one who supply it instead of the private firms to protect the rights and welfare of the consumer group. If there exist under provision of these public goods, the societal welfare would negatively be affected. In this regard, there is a question on whether what should prevail in our economy, capitalism or socialism? One may say that this debate between capitalism and socialism is already a cliche, but we cannot set aside the arguments and points of each side which could give us guide us in understanding what is happening in the real world. Let me discuss first capitalism. Capitalism promotes the concentration of the government in the provision of security in the society and not to intervene in the business world. Some capitalists say that, with the intervention of the government, person who wants to establish a business enterprise is being deprived due to the policies that are being implemented by the government. For instance, legal monopoly that was given by the government to some companies hinders other people from starting their own water/electric company. This failure of other people to start their own utility business, as capitalists believe, is a violation to their freedom. Socialism, on the other hand, is extremely the opposite of the capitalists thinking. Here, government intervention is very much welcome and the society is recognizing the ability of the government to efficiently handle companies and to equally distribute whatever the goods or service that they produce to their citizens. One good example to this is the provision of government of medical services and education. Since not all individuals can afford the costs of schooling provided by private firms, what the government does is they establish public schools charging at a minimum amount. As for the medical services, the government establishes public hospitals and clinics that would provide its citizens cheaper medical services and medicines for less capable people. With this, the basic right of human, to have education and access to medical services, is being fulfilled by the government. The reason why government provides efficient goods and services is due to the fact that they are providing the said goods and services at a reasonable price unlike private firms, especially monopolists, that charges above what is socially acceptable price. Now, based from the points of these two ideologies, therefore, it depends on the situation if whether a certain government intervention is good to the society. If the government interferes in the market in order to protect the welfare of its citizens, then, there is no room for capitalists to say that they are being deprived by the government to put their own business. In addition to that, establishing another utility business, like electric company, would be very costly due to the high fixed costs that they must face. This is the reason why it would be efficient if only one would continue ââ¬Ëmonopolizeââ¬â¢ the production of electricity in the country. In this regard, if there would be an under provision of public goods like education, electricity, medical services and security due to budget deficit of the government; societal welfare would surely be greatly devastated. More people would be deprived with their basic human rights and might suffer to private firmââ¬â¢s abusing power. Only during instances wherein the private firms abuses their power and charge high to their customer by providing inelastic goods the government initiate actions to regulate the situation. Good Economics versus Good Politics One could say that an act promotes good economics if it aims for the maximization of the satisfaction of the society or market (Sharma, 2007). On the other hand, one could say that an act promotes good politics if it is backed up by a good policy for the welfare of the majority. Most of the analysts say that good economics leads to good politics and vice versa. Others believe that itââ¬â¢s the other way around. The point of the latter is that, making policies that promotes the no personal interest would lead to good economics since promoting the interest of the majority is tantamount to saying that they are maximizing the satisfaction of the society or they are after for the optimal level of societal welfare (Gittins, 2004). In order for each of the said ideals to exists, it must ensure the survival of one another. It seems hard for the politicians to set aside their personal political interest for the public interest but it should be done in order to attain what is really best for the economy and for the country. One way to promote the public interest is to lessen the burdens being imposed to the public like- tax (Gruen, 2007). Minimizing the tax rate would require a long battle and endless debate but the thing is, if all of the politicians would set aside their personal interest everything is possible for the government and they could act efficiently for the betterment of the economy. In this regard, there is no point arguing what is the best for the society- good economics or good politics, since one is needed for the existence of the other. Invisible Hand Principle Advocated by Adam Smith, invisible hand supports capitalistââ¬â¢s view. According to Adam Smith, the government must not intervene in the market and focus only on providing security and justice system to the society. They also believe that government lessens the societal welfare with their imposition of taxes. Taxes just add up to the operational costs of the businesses that in turn being passed to the consumers. In short, the burden of the taxes that are being imposed by the government goes to the end consumers. Adam Smith believes that market systems has its own mechanism to ââ¬Ëhealââ¬â¢ itself and move back again towards the equilibrium condition even without the intervention of the government. By satisfying the ââ¬Ëselfishââ¬â¢ motives of producers and consumers, they are unconsciously helping each other. Therefore, increasing the taxes rate collection of the government to cover the budget deficit would be an unwise idea since it would only add up to the burden of the consumers or the public. Government intervention must have the right timing and, as much as possible, impose less burden to the consumers. As what have been cited a while ago, government intervention depends on the situation and the condition between the private firms and the consumer group. Government intervention would only be sufficient if it uplifts the welfare of the consumer group with less negative effects on the private firms. But as for the increasing tax rate scenario, it seems that, although unintentionally, the government negatively affects the welfare of the consumer group while leaving the private firms unharmed since they only pass the taxes to the consumers. In this case, it would be better if the government let the ââ¬Ëinvisible handââ¬â¢ or the free market system to put back into order the economy. Production Possibilities Curve There are some instances wherein private firms are being restricted in passing the added costs of government intervention to their consumers. Like for instance, the imposition of tariff on importers, tariff is another income generating activities of the government aside from taxation. With the extra expenses of the importers on every unit of goods that they are importing to the country, they can now only afford to buy less of the said imported goods depending on their allotted budget. In this scenario, the business would be producing below its production possibilities curve or PPF. This means that with the existence of higher tariffs on imported goods needed by local industries, the companies could only buy fewer imported raw materials and, therefore, producing fewer number of finished products than with the optimal level of production. This situation is treated to be inefficient, but since tariff is a form of income generation of the government, the only thing that the government could do is to find the efficient level of tariff rate wherein businesses could still produce closely to their PPF. With this, the value of the efficiency that is lost from the private firms would be justified and would return to them in a form of infrastructures in a form of roads and bridges which could alleviate the efficiency of their operation. In reality, it is pretty hard to produce within the PPF due to the existence of various intervening variables and tariff is one of them. The least thing that businesses could do is to produce closer to their PPF or their optimal level of production based on their capacity and capability. Opportunity Costs With the possibility of under provision of important government services, the government cannot afford to make it happen due to the high opportunity costs involved in the case. The government might forego the value of the welfare of its citizens in exchange of the improvement of the welfare of the corporations. If the welfare of the corporations and consumer group is to be calculated, the welfare of the consumer group is surely larger than with the welfare of the corporations in the market; and in the first place, it is the duty of the government to protect and prioritize the safety and welfare of the majority- citizens of their country. Just imagine the number of students that might stop schooling with the cutting of the budget for education; the number of sick and less capable citizens that only relies on the help of the government for cheaper medical services and/or medicines from public hospitals and clinics. To make the situation worst, the government prioritizes the welfare of Iraqis than with its own citizen. It was aired in the news that the government raised the amount of budget for the ââ¬Ëpeace keeping roleââ¬â¢ of the government to Iraqi people. It is not bad to help other people, but ââ¬Ëthink first about the welfare of your own people before the othersââ¬â¢ since that is the right thing to do. The point here is that, the reason why the government suffers to budget deficit is due to their wrong priorities. The government must not set aside the welfare of its citizen since it would bail them higher opportunity costs. Capitalism versus Socialism. (2017, Jan 27).

Comparing Leadership in Military Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Comparing Leadership in Military - Essay Example The key leadership challenges for me exist at several levels. The foremost challenge is for me to establish clear-defined role for the DCO of the brigade, who in the past have been deemed to have a confused role. As CO, I also need to define my role clearly. These problems were apparent in Afghanistan during the previous deployment, where the leadership struggled due to too many responsibilities being assigned to the DCO, due to having a separate leadership structure in place over the MiTT, and later on as a result of the untimely deaths of the top officers in the brigade. Not only did the deaths of these officers create a sudden change of leadership, it also required the development of a new vision of leadership as well as the inspiration of new confidence in the troops in the entire brigade. Thus, I have a challenge in establishing myself as the new leader who will bring the unit back to the pace and status it held under old leadership, and as a result I must raise morale and profi ciency among the soldiers. Within the officer structure, there is also a problem of my shops working together in harmonyââ¬âthe S3 shop is perceived as dictatorial by its members, while the S4 shop is overwhelmed; finally, the S6 shop, least likely to complain about workload, also finds that its job is overwhelming. These shops all need some sort of relief, and I need to refocus them in order to better complete their tasks as well as recover from the deployment. My second leadership challenge lies at the NCO level. The most alarming aspect of this is how my brigade CSM is not open to the feedback of his NCOs, who complained about the stress and workload as well. Although the NCOs do benefit from hard handed leadership that requires action and results, they also need leadership that listens to their feedback and integrates into a wider solution. The CSM is not going to improve the efficiency and morale of his NCOs by batting back their feedback, negative as it may be, and needs t o take an approach that will lead to more incentive and increased dedication. In short, the NCOs need to be inspired rather than reprimandedââ¬âand I need to reprimand my CSM. Finally, there is an issue throughout the entire brigade of time and resource management. The reset face is presenting me a challenge due to the dwindling amount of days before the next phase of training comes into place, and much of the equipment is either in transit or in disrepair and will not be available for full use until much close to the H+180 point. This places pressure on myself and the leadership at all levels, as the leaders from the team level up to my position as CO need to find a way to train and familiarize with equipment that we do not have. The result is not that there is a shortage of time, but moreso that there is an excess of time without the proper resources. I need to find a way to prepare the troops for the next deployment cycle without the equipmentââ¬âI also need to adjust the troops to the new mission and timeline in Afghanistan, as well as the fact that they may be acting in infantry type roles in addition to their usual MOS roles. My vision for transforming the organization of the 56th HBCT involves making a clear structure of authority and tasking. As CO, I will require reports on equipment availability at
